A spacer implant (10, 110, 120) designed for placement between the bones of ajoint, which includes soft tissue components. The spacer includes a spacerbody (12) positionable between the bones and defined by an outer periphery(18). The spacer also includes at least one tether (40). Each of the tethershas a first end (42) fixed to the spacer body and a second end (44) extendingoutwardly from the outer periphery of the spacer body. The second end of eachof the tethers is adapted to be fastened to any of the bones or the softtissue components of the joint.
