A device with a self-supporting membrane covering or surrounding or encompassing a hollow hypodermic needle to maintain a sterile environment for the transfer of fluid or liquid or gas, that allows multiple clean connections to other sterile medical devices or tubes by piercing, penetrating or puncturing the membrane. The membrane is fixed at its open end and tapers down to a reduced cross-section at the protruding end. The wall thickness at the free end is increased over that of the attached end to reduce the internal air volume. The inner walls of the membrane can be supported by the needle. The device also contains base, a method of fastening the device to a subject and a projection that allows the membrane to form a tight mechanical interference friction fit.
