A single-use sterile disposable catheter placement assist device and a catheter placement method using the device for assisting in sterilization of a transurethral urinary catheter in a female patient. The catheter placement assist device includes a labia separator having a flared wing having a curved contour. Wings meet at the valley. The catheter placement assist device also includes a posterior shield covering the perineal tissue, including the anus, to prevent bacterial contamination of the sterile catheter, and visualization of the labia, posterior vaginal wall opening, perineal shielding, and urethral opening A spout may further be included that can be inserted shallowly into the vagina to position the catheter device so as to optimize.
