By administering 1-(3-(2-(1-benzothiophen-5-yl)ethoxy)propyl)azetidin-3-ol or a salt thereof, it is possible to prevent or treat diseases in which an increase in the level of amyloid-β protein in the brain occurs, such as Alzheimer-type dementia.La présente invention aborde le problème consistant à fournir un agent pharmaceutique et une méthode qui permettent d'empêcher la progression de maladies, telles que la démence de type Alzheimer, présentant une augmentation du taux de la protéine β-amyloïde dans le cerveau. Le 1-(3-(2-(1-benzothiophène-5-yl)éthoxy)propyl)azétidine-3-ol ou un sel de ce dernier a pour effet de faire baisser le taux de la protéine β-amyloïde dans le parenchyme cérébral, et est par conséquent efficace en tant qu'agent permettant de faire baisser le taux de la protéine β-amyloïde dans le cerveau.
