A PIVC includes a catheter adapter having a catheter (211) that extends distally from the catheter adapter (218), and an introducer needle (225) that inserts through the catheter. The introducer needle has a grip component at a proximal end of the introducer needle. The grip component extends outwardly and distally to form a winged grip (222) adjacent the catheter adapter when the introducer needle is inserted within the catheter.
