To provide an improved catheter insertion mechanism to be used in a limited space environment capable of inserting a canula perpendicularly or nearly perpendicularly into the surface of the skin cost-effectively by reducing an overall height of a patch pump.SOLUTION: A catheter insertion device includes a housing, a catheter 28, an introduction needle, a spring 90, a spring retainer 92, and an actuator 26. The actuator engages with a catheter hub 36, and can move between a first position in which the catheter and the needle are pulled into the housing and a second position in which the catheter and the needle extend from a base.
