An apparatus (1) for treating containers (10), including a transport device (2) which transports the containers (10) along a specified transport path (P), the transport device (2) including a plurality of holding elements (4) for holding the containers (10), with the holding elements (4) being transported along the specified transport path (P). According to the invention, the apparatus includes a cleaning device (8) for sterilising the holding elements (4) at least in sections.
