PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel-structure active-type fluid cell mattress preventing rapid deformation of support cells constituting a body-pressure acting surface and improving sleeping comfort by stabilization of the body-pressure acting surface, and a control method thereof.SOLUTION: The fluid cell mattress includes a plurality of cell units 26 constituted by communicating a plurality of fluid chambers 40 of support cells 30 to one another by first communication pathways 46, where the respective cell units 26 are connected with auxiliary cells 28 whose volume is changeable by including auxiliary fluid chambers 60 therein, and the fluid chambers 40 of the support cells 30 and the auxiliary fluid chambers 60 of the auxiliary cells 28 are communicated to one another by second communication pathways 66. A cross section of a pathway of at least one of the first communication pathway 46 and the second communication pathway 66 is configured to be variable according to passage internal pressure.
