An exhaust gas control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an addition valve (42), a tank (41), a urea water passage (43), a pump (44), a nitrogen oxides catalyst (31), and an electronic control unit (10). The electronic control unit (10) is configured to: (i) control the pump (44), as a first control, such that a specified amount of the urea water stored in the addition valve (42) and the urea water passage (43) is returned to the tank (41) after the internal combustion engine is stopped; (ii) control the pump (44), as a second control, such that the specified amount or more of the urea water in the tank (41) is discharged from the tank (41) to the urea water passage (43) after the first control is executed; and (iii) control the pump (44), as a third control, such that all the urea water stored in the addition valve (42) and the urea water passage (43) is returned to the tank after the second control is executed.
