The respiratory system includes a pressurized gas source coupled to a respiratory device containing the drug. The sprayer is connected to the breathing unit. The pressure sensing switch is opened to detect negative pressure in the breathing unit due to inspiration and to provide a pressurized gas flow to the atomizer. The pressure sensing switch is configured to be closed prior to the end of the inspiration. Residual drugs placed in the system are cleared from the system and delivered to the patient for the remainder of the inspiratory cycle.
