The disclosure relates to the use of a histamine H4 receptor antagonist in the preparation of a medicament for the inhibition of post-operative adhesion formation in a body between tissue surfaces in a body cavity having been subjected to a surgical procedure, which involve administering a histamine H4 receptor antagonist, systemically, directly to tissue surfaces in the body cavity, or both, and to delivery vehicles and compositions suitable for use for local, non-systemic administration of a drug to the body and directly to tissue within a body cavity having been subjected to a surgical procedure, wherein the medicament is formulated for systemic administration and wherein the at least one histamine H4 receptor antagonist is selected from the group consisting of:(a) benzoimidazolyl and benzoxazolyl amides and thioamides; (b) 8-membered bicyclic aromatic amides and thioamides; (c) 9-membered bicyclic aromatic amides, thioamides, and imides;(d) indolyl and benzimidazolyl pyrrolidinyl amides; pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates, solvates and mixtures of any of said histamine H4 receptor antagonists.
