PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating mucosal injury of the small intestine.SOLUTION: The pharmaceutical composition includes an azulene derivative as an active component of a preventive-therapeutic agent for mucosal injury of the small intestine. There is further provided the pharmaceutical composition containing the azulene derivative and glutamine as active components of the preventive-therapeutic agent for mucosal injury of the small intestine. The azulene derivative is preferably an azulenesulfonic acid sodium salt, its prodrug or its pharmacologically acceptable salt. As an alternative, the azulene derivative is preferably egualen sodium, its prodrug or its pharmacologically acceptable salt.
