A cleaning appliance such as an electric toothbrush with an extendable rinse nozzle 36 for delivering bursts of working fluid to the teeth of a user comprises a handle 12 detachably connectable to a cleaning tool part 14, there being located on a concave end surface 42 of the handle 12 a non-rotatable, male, push in, snap-fit connector 38 extending parallel to and radially spaced from the longitudinal axis X of the handle and a complementary female connector 40 on a convex end surface of the cleaning tool 14, and a fluid outlet port 120 also located on the end surface 42 of the handle, spaced from the connector 38, and which aligns with a corresponding fluid inlet port 224 on the cleaning tool 14. The handle connection also includes a rotary drive unit coupling 70,72 and a handle fluid inlet 104 for selective connection to a fluid outlet port 122 of a reservoir 34 with collar 124 rotatably mounted around the cleaning tool stem 26.
