PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a surgical access device and a surgical access system in such a way that a simple and safe access into the body of a patient can be made.SOLUTION: The surgical access device 10 for introducing surgical instruments into the body of the patient comprises a sleeve section 16 defining a longitudinal axis 24 and a working channel 18. In the surgical access device, a ratio between the length 52 and the internal diameter 38 of the sleeve section lies in a range of approximately 4:1 to approximately 8:1.
