A magnesium-based alloy consisting essentially of: indium and/or gallium in atotalamount between 0.1 and 4 mass %, scandium and/or gadolinium in a total amountbetween 0.1 and 15.0 mass %, yttrium in an amount between 0.1 and 3.0 mass %,rare earth metals in a total amount between 0.1 and 3.0 mass %, one or more ofzirconium, hafnium and titanium in a total amount between 0.1 and 0.7 mass %,optionally 0.001 mass % or less of a toxiferous element, optionally silver(Ag),aluminium (Al), beryllium (Be), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), mercury (Hg),strontium (Sr) and thorium (Th) which are each present in an amount of 0.001mass% or less, and magnesium with purity more than or equal to 99.98 mass % makingup the balance. A use of said an alloy for the manufacture of at least part ofamedical device, the medical device so obtained.
