A preferred form of the invention relates to a fluid meter, for example for measuring milk passing through a fluid line at a farm or processing factory. In a preferred embodiment the meter has a main chamber 2, a collection chamber 3, a pot-like divider 11 and a breather port 14. The main chamber 2 is formed so that it can receive a jet of fluid and cause it to spread as a canopy. A minor portion of the fluid can pass through the divider 11 into the collection chamber 3. The fluid in the collection chamber provides an accurate measure of the amount of fluid which has passed through the meter. The port 14 equalises vacuum pressure between the two chambers to at least substantially prevent non-proportional movement of the fluid into the collection chamber.
