An aerosol delivery system has an aerosol-generation apparatus having a heater and a fluid-transfer article. The fluid transfer-article has a first region for holding an aerosol precursor and a second region to which the aerosol precursor is transferred from the first region. The second region has an activation surface which interacts with the heater to form an aerosol from the aerosol precursor. The heater is moveable, between a first position in which at least a part of its heating surface is in contact with the activation surface and a second position in which at least a part of the heating surface is spaced from the activation surface. In the first position, an air-flow pathway between the heater and the activation surface is blocked, whereas in the second position, that air-flow pathway is unblocked. Air flow between the heating surface and the activation surface causes the heater to move to the second position from the first position.
