The description herein relates to a method of treating diastolic cardiac dysfunction and symptoms thereof in a subject comprising administering an amount of a TRPV2 receptor agonist effective to treat diastolic cardiac dysfunction. The TRPV2 receptor agonist can be administered by at least one of infusion, oral administration, or transdermal administration. The amount of TRPV2 receptor agonist provides improved performance relative to quantitative diagnostic criteria. In one embodiment, the TRPV2 receptor agonist is administered over a period of about 8 hours to about 24 hours. TRPV2 receptor agonists can be used for treatment for a short period of time, such as less than one week, or can be administered over a long period of time, such as weeks, months, or years.
