This invention relates to a method, system and apparatus for detecting when an animal is in heat. The invention further relates to a method of alerting a responsible individual that the animal is in heat. The method for detecting when an animal is in heat comprises the steps of, using a sensor mounted on a bull, monitoring the activity of the bull in the proximity of the animal. Thereafter, the activity of the bull is analysed before finally it is determined, based on the analysed activity of the bull, whether or not the animal is in heat. The invention shifts the focus from the animal, such as a cow, to the bull and leans on the natural instincts of the bull to determine when the cow is in heat. By implementing such a system, a more reliable and/or less expensive system than many of the existing offerings is provided.La présente invention concerne un procédé, un système et un appareil de détection du moment où un animal est en chaleur. L'invention concerne également un procédé d'alerte d'une personne responsable que l'animal est en chaleur. Le procédé de détection du moment où un animal est en chaleur comprend les étapes consistant en : l'utilisation d'un détecteur monté sur un taureau, et la surveillance de l'activité du taureau à proximité de l'animal. En outre, l'activité du taureau est analysée avant qu'elle soit finalement déterminée, sur la base de l'activité analysée du taureau, que l'animal se trouve ou pas en chaleur. L'invention détourne l'attention de l'animal, tel qu'une vache, vers le taureau et repose sur les instincts naturels du taureau à déterminer lorsque la vache est en chaleur.
