Disclosed are cyclopropylamine derivatives for the inhibition of the activity of Lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) of general formula (I), wherein the substituents are as described in the specification. Also disclosed is the use of the cyclopropylamines in the treatment of cancer. In one embodiment the compound is N-(hexahydro-1H-azepin-4-ylmethyl)-trans-2-phenylcyclopropanamine. In another embodiment the compound is [trans-2-phenylcyclopropyl] [2-(4-piperidinyl)ethyl] amine. In yet another embodiment the compound is 3-((R)-3-((((1R,2S)-2-Phenylcyclopropyl)amino)methyl)pyrrolidin-1-yl)propanoic acid.
