The present invention relates to novel uses of TonEBP gene and more specifically, to a composition for diagnosing eating disorder including a probe or a primer having a complimentary nucleotide sequence of the TonEBP gene, to a kit, and to a microarray. In addition, the present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating eating disorder which includes an inhibitor which suppresses expression of the gene or suppresses the activities of proteins expressed from the genes and to a method for screening the inhibitor. Especially, the amount of expression increased of the TonEBP protein and the amount of increase or activities of the TonEBP protein suppress appetite； are relate to eating behaviors such as weight reduction and the likes； and can control appetite through at least one among binding of regulators of the TonEBP and the TonEBP so that the TonEBP protein can be utilized as a target gene to diagnose or treat eating disorder； especially obesity, bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, bulimia or cachexia.본 발명은 TonEBP 유전자의 신규한 용도에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 TonEBP 유전자의 뉴클레오티드 서열에 상보적인 서열을 갖는 프로브 또는 프라이머를 포함하는 섭식 장애의 진단용 조성물, 키트 및 마이크로어레이에 관한 것이며, 또한, 상기 유전자의 발현을 억제하거나 또는 상기 유전자로부터 발현되는 단백질의 활성을 억제할 수 있는 억제제를 포함하는 섭식 장애의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물 및 상기 억제제를 스크리닝 하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 특히, 상기 TonEBP 유전자의 증가된 발현량과, TonEBP 단백질의 증가된 양 또는 활성은 식욕을 억제하고, 체중을 감소시키는 등 섭식행동에 관련되며, TonEBP의 상위조절자 및 TonEBP 결합 중 적어도 하나를 통하여 식욕을 조절할 수 있으므로, 섭식 장애, 특히 비만, 폭식증, 거식증, 과식증 또는 악액질의 진단 또는 치료의 표적 유전자로 활용될 수 있다.
