PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biocompatible gel material having excellent biocompatibility together with mechanical properties and to provide a composition for obtaining the material.
SOLUTION: The biocompatible gel material comprises three components of (A) a water-soluble polymer having the biocompatibility, (B) a water-swellable clay mineral uniformly dispersible in water and (C) water as constituent components. The biocompatible gel material is composed of an organic/inorganic composite hydrogel in which the (C) is included in a three-dimensional network composed of the (A) and (B) or a dried body thereof. The composition for the biocompatible gel material comprises (B) the water-swellable clay mineral uniformly dispersible in water and (D) a monomer of the water-soluble polymer having the biocompatibility.
