The present invention provides compositions and methods for inducing an immune response against Streptococcus pneumoniae . More specifically, the compositions and methods relate to immunogenic polypeptides comprising a PhtD fragment and variants thereof, and to nucleic acids, vectors and infected cells encoding or expressing the polypeptides.
