SOLUTION: An extracellular domain, a transmembrane domain, one or more intracellular regions containing a mouse anti-BCMA (B cell mature antigen) antibody or an antigen-binding fragment thereof that binds to one or more epitopes of human BCMA polypeptide. A chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) is provided that comprises a costimulatory signaling domain and a primary signaling domain. Polynucleotides encoding the CARs of the invention are also provided.
