The present invention is a surgical instrument for use in combination with a pneumatically operated tool. In various alternative embodiments, the surgical instrument includes a drive system configured to apply at least one actuation actuation to the pneumatically actuated tool when receiving a gas flow under pressure. The surgical instrument may further comprise a material storage member fluidly coupled to the drive system. The material storage member may receive a first non-gaseous material that is selectively vaporized under pressure at the time of actuation of the drive system. Power sources for gas powered devices are also disclosed. In various embodiments, the power source may comprise a material storage member fluidly coupled to a gas-driven device.
