An intraocular lens focuser 114 to be implanted in an eye comprises a resiliently deformable force applicator 140 to apply a focussing force to an accommodating lens 112 and an attaching portion 142 configured to enable attachment of the lens focuser in the eye. The ciliary muscle 20 acts on the force applicator to relax or deform the lens for near and distance vision. The attaching portion fixes the applicator to at least one of: an exterior of the capsular sac 12, zonules 22 and ciliary muscle. The attaching portion may comprise a plurality of spaced apart members 150 such as hooks or loops. The applicator may comprise an annular body and may include at least one formation, such as a groove, for holding the lens. Also claimed is an accommodating intraocular lens system including a lens having a body 116 and haptic portions.
