The invention provides pharmaceutical compositions for pulmonary delivery comprising particles containing levodopa and having a geometric size of 8 μm to 12 μm, a tap density of 0.25 g/cm3 to 0.050 g/cm3, and a water content between 1.90 and 2.90 weight percent. The invention also provides methods for delivering the pharmaceutical compositions of the invention to the respiratory tract of a patient.
