A windguard mechanism 100 comprising a pair of arms 101, 102 directly or indirectly attachable to the agricultural machine and a windguard plate 110 extending between the pair of arms 101, 102 and positioned to hold down the crop material processed by the pickup mechanism. The windguard plate 110 comprises a first plate member 111 fixed between the pair of arms 101, 102 and a second plate member 112 positioned movably with respect to the first plate member 111, wherein the working surfaces S11, S12 S21, S22 of the first plate member 111 and of the second plate member 112 form a substantially continuous windguard working surface of an area independent on the position of the second plate member 112.
