Sheathing stents may be time consuming and expensive, as the sheath may bedelicate. Provided herein is a method and apparatus for reliably andefficiently sheathing astent. The method includes the steps of providing a stent assembly including acathetermember and a stent member disposed about the catheter member, placing a firstsheath filmadjacent one side of the stent assembly； placing a second sheath film adjacentan oppositeside of the stent assembly, and compressing the stent assembly, whereby thefirst andsecond sheath films move toward each other and substantially surround thestent assembly.The first and second sheath films are provided in rolls. Compressing isimplemented by aradial compression mechanism. The first and second sheath films pass throughthe radialcompression mechanism. Compressing sheaths the stent assembly and crimps thestentonto the catheter. As an alternative to two sheath films, a single film may beused, wherebycompressing surrounds the stent assembly with the single sheath film.
