Iodine seeds are produced by forming an intermediate by introducing anions of phosphate, oxalate or arsenate onto the surface of a support, and then substituting the anions with I-125. The method may allow a high substitution effect of iodine. The support may be silver, ceramic containing silver or a heavy metal surface treated with silver. The iodine seed may be sealed with titanium. Silver wire was treated with sodium phosphate； subsequent treatment with I-125 gave the iodine seeds. Similarly seeds were produced using sodium oxalate or sodium arsenate. The iodine seeds may be useful for the treatment of eye disease or prostate cancer.
