The present invention relates to a composition for the preservation of human or animal corpses or parts thereof that may be used in the field of embalming products as well as for long-term preservation. This non-toxic composition can substitute the hazardous embalming products that are currently on the market such as those based on formaldehyde or bronopol. Said composition comprises at least: (i) a biocide, which is selected from an acid having a molecular weight lower or equal to 200 g/molor a salt thereof (ii) a pH buffer suitable for providing a pH in the range of 4 to 7 to the composition and (iii) an ionic corrector. The composition of the invention is not fit for human consumption and therefore cannot be used in the food industry.La présente invention concerne une composition pour la conservation de cadavres humains ou animaux ou de parties de ceux-ci qui peut être utilisée dans le domaine des produits dembaumement ainsi que pour la conservation à long terme. Cette composition non toxique peut remplacer les produits dembaumement dangereux actuellement sur le marché tels que ceux à base de formaldéhyde ou de bronopol. Ladite composition comprend au moins : (i) un biocide, qui est choisi parmi un acide ayant un poids moléculaire inférieur ou égal à 200 g/mole ou un sel de celui-ci (ii) un tampon de pH permettant de donner un pH dans la plage de 4 à 7 à la composition et (iii) un correcteur ionique. La composition de linvention nest pas adaptée à la consommation humaine et ne peut donc pas être utilisée dans lindustrie alimentaire.
