A method of producing a hydroxyalkyl starch (HAS) derivative, comprising a) reacting optionally oxidized hydroxyalkyl starch with a compound (D) comprising at least two functional groups -O-NH 2 or a salt thereof, and b) reacting the hydroxyalkyl starch derivative obtained in step a) with a compound (L) comprising at least two functional groups W 1 and W 2 independently selected from the group consisting of an aldehyde group, a suitably protected aldehyde group, a keto group, and a suitably protected keto group.La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'un dérivé d'amidon hydroxyalkylé (HAS), comprenant les étapes consistant a) à faire réagir un amidon hydroxyalkylé, éventuellement oxydé, avec un composé (D) comprenant au moins deux groupes fonctionnels -O-NH2 ou son sel, et b) à faire réagir le dérivé d'amidon hydroxyalkylé obtenu à l'étape a) avec un composé (L) comprenant au moins deux groupes fonctionnels W1 et W2, choisis, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, dans le groupe constitué d'un groupe aldéhyde, d'un groupe aldéhyde convenablement protégé, d'un groupe céto et d'un groupe céto convenablement protégé.
