The guard can be annular, with a central opening (2) for the plant, and split into two or more parts (3,4) detachable from each other. The protrusion can have a steep and pref. vertical surface (5) on the outside, while on the inside it can slope more gently towards the middle. The projection can be radiused at the top edge, forming a channel-section internal chamber. It can bed of rigid plastics typically 1 mm. thick, and a U-shaped wire stirrup can be inserted in the ground to hold the guard in place.
