Provided is an animal repellant which comprises as an active ingredient a compound which emits an odor which causes an innate fear among animals, to which animals will not become accustomed. Said animal repellent comprises at least one of the following as an active ingredient: a heterocyclic compound shown in general formula 1 or a salt thereof a straight-chain sulfide compound or an alkyl isothiocyanate.
