1. A method of increasing the outer diameter and the diameter of the lumen of the patient’s delivery artery, comprising: fluidly connecting one end of the pump-tube assembly to the delivery artery; fluidly connecting the other end of the pump-tube assembly to the receiving location; and pumping oxygenated blood from the giving artery to the receiving location at a flow rate and for a time sufficient to achieve a constant increase in the outer diameter and lumen diameter of the giving artery. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the delivery artery is selected from the group consisting of a radial artery, ulnar artery, brachial artery, or femoral artery. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving location is an axillary vein, subclavian vein, brachiocephalic vein, jugular vein, superior vena cava, femoral vein, iliac vein, inferior vena cava, or right atrium. The method of claim 1, wherein the patient needs a vascular access site for hemodialysis access. The method of claim 1, further comprising: using at least a portion of the delivery artery with a constantly-increased outer diameter and lumen diameter in order to create an arteriovenous fistula, arteriovenous graft, or patient shunt graft. The method of claim 1, wherein the pump-tube assembly pumps blood at a rate between 50 ml / min and 2500 ml / min. The method of claim 1, wherein the average shear stress at the wall in the delivery artery is between 1.5 Pa and 23 Pa when the pump-tube assembly is operating. The method of claim 1, wherein the average blood velocity in the giving artery is between 10 cm / s and 120 cm / s when the pump assembly is operating1.
