The installation has a water-permeable rooting sand/soil substrate (102) for rooting of plants e.g. lawn (101). A water tank (300) is arranged vertically in line with the substrate, and extends over an entire surface of the substrate. The tank has a water storage height higher than 150 mm. A watertight wall (4) separates the substrate and the tank. A regulating device for regulating the water level collects water exceeding a certain level in the substrate for injecting the water into the tank.
