Ein autonomes Haushaltsgerät (1) in Form eines Bodenreinigungsroboters oder Rasenmähroboters mit einer Plattform (3), die Fortbewegungsmittel (4), Umgebungssensoren (5a, 5b, 5c) zur Detektion von Eigenschaften der Umgebung des autonomen Haushaltsgerätes (1) und eine Steuerungseinheit (6) hat, wird beschrieben. Die Umgebungssensoren (5a, 5b, 5c) sind mit der Steuerungseinheit (6) verbunden und die Steuerungseinheit (6) ist zur autonomen Fortbewegung des Haushaltsgerätes (1) durch Ansteuerung der Fortbewegungsmittel (4) in Abhängigkeit von den detektierten Umgebungseigenschaften und zum ständigen Abfahren eines Gebietes zur Ausführung seiner eigentlichen Haushaltstätigkeit eingerichtet.
