An ultrasound observation apparatus according to the present invention includes: a frequency analyzing unit that calculates a plurality of frequency spectra by analyzing a frequency of a signal generated based on an echo signal; a feature calculating unit that calculates feature of each of the plurality of frequency spectra, for each of three attenuation rate candidate values, calculates corrected features of the plurality of frequency spectra, and calculates a statistical dispersion of the corrected feature for each of the attenuation rate candidate values, then, generates a quadratic function based on the dispersion, and sets an attenuation rate candidate value for which the statistical dispersion in the quadratic function is minimum as an optimal attenuation rate; and a feature image data generating unit that generates feature image data displaying the corrected feature based on the optimal attenuation rate together with an ultrasound image.
