The present invention relates to a hand dryer and a control method thereof and, more specifically, relates to the hand dryer and the control method thereof having an air purification function. According to the present invention, the hand dryer comprises: a main body part a flow forming part to form an air flow passing through the main body part a filter part to purify the air passing through an inside of the main body part a heater part to raise a temperature of the air passing through the inside of the main body part and a control part to control operation of the heater part to selectively perform an air purification mode to discharge air to the outside of the main body part after purifying the same, and a hand dryer mode to spray air to the outside of the main body part after raising the temperature of the purified air by the heater part. The hand dryer in a normal case performs the air purification function using the flow forming part and the filter part, and the hand dryer in a required case performs the hand dryer function by rapidly discharging a greater amount of air after purification and heating by operating the heater part and increasing an output of the flow forming part and the filter part.
