A shovel with a fulcrum projection is disclosed. The shovel has a blade with a front, a back, a proximate end, and a pointed distal end, a handle joined to the proximal end of the blade, and a fulcrum member projecting behind the back of the blade. In some embodiments, the fulcrum members vertical position is adjustable in additional embodiments, the blade is serrated or the shovel has footrests.
