A cutaneous catheter anchoring device and method to prevent occlusion of an indwelling peripheral intravenous catheter and to do so in a way that does not require immobilization of, or significant reduction in the range of motion of, the joint of the particular extremity. The device and method accomplish this by immobilizing multiple areas of the skins surface relative to the indwelling catheter. The device is in close proximity to the indwelling catheter and maintains a smooth, rather than bent or creased, skin surface above the catheter thus preventing creasing or kinking of the catheter itself during times when the patient bends the extremity.
