The present invention provides a straw walker with a retrofitted first step (1) which makes the user to switch between two versions of combine, i.e. with and without rotary separator (25) by a single set of straw walkers. In the present invention a straw walker apparatus is provided with a straw walker assembly (3) consisting of plurality of longitudinally extending steps with meshed frame, wherein a primary step (2) of the straw walker assembly (3) consists of plurality of openings. A first step (1) attached to the primary step (2) of the straw walker assembly (3) with plurality of connecting means (11) wherein the first step (1) is detachable, the detachable first step consists rearwardly extending sidewalls (5) with plates (4) at the end of sidewalls (5) and the plates (4) having plurality of attaching means.
