The present invention provides a preservative composition for protecting ophthalmic solutions from microbial attack comprising a combination of benzalkonium ion and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) wherein the combined concentrations of benzalkonium ion and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) in said composition is sufficient to provide protection against microbial attack when said composition is added to an ophtalmic solution as compared to said ophthalmic soulution having the same concentration of benzalkonium ion and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB), alone.本発明は、ベンザルコニウムイオンとポリヘキサメチレンビグアニド(PHMB)との組み合わせを含む、微生物の攻撃から眼科用液剤を保護するための保存剤組成物を提供する。この場合、組成物におけるベンザルコニウムイオンとポリヘキサメチレンビグアニド(PHMB)との混合濃度は、眼科用液剤に添加された場合、ベンザルコニウムイオンおよびポリヘキサメチレンビグアニド(PHMB)のみを同一濃度で有するこの眼科用液剤と比較して、微生物の攻撃を十分防御できる濃度である。
