The plane position for the standard view is detected from three dimensional echocardiographic data (36). The plane position within the volume is defined by translation, direction (rotation), and / or scale. Possible locations are detected 36 and other possible locations are excluded. The classification of possible positions is in turn caused by translation 26, direction 28, and scale 30.
