The present invention relates to white soft paraffin, suitable for pharmaceutical use, wherein the paraffin comprises a mixture of hydrocarbons with a different chain length, wherein this mixture of hydrocarbons comprises less than 5% by weight of hydrocarbons with a chain length of less than 25, the paraffin being less than 5 ppm of butyl hydroxy toluene (BHT). In a further aspect, the invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing this white soft paraffin.
