The diaper may have a pair of longitudinally extending elastic cuffs and a barrier element between the cuffs, which divides front and back portions of the diaper and may include a wall element and bridge element, the barrier element extending in three dimensions such that it has a shape in the longitudinal plane of the diaper, the shape being symmetrical about at least one transverse plane.
