PURPOSE: A composition for preventing or treating arthritis using Barx 1(BarH-like homeobox 1) molecule is provided to improve viability of chondrocytes. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating arthritis contains a nucleic acid molecule which suppresses expression of a nucleotide sequence encoding an amino acid sequence of sequence number 2. The nucleotide sequence has nucleotide sequence of sequence number 1. The nucleic acid molecule is shRNA, siRNA, miRNA, ribozyme, PNA(peptide nucleic acids), or antisense oligonucleotide.본 발명은 Barx 1(BarH-like homeobox 1) 분자를 이용한 관절염의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물, 관절염 진단 키트 및 관절염 치료제 조성물의 스크리닝 방법에 관한 것이다.본 발명은 관절 조직의 기능 유지 및 연골세포 생존성 향상을 통해 관절염의 근본적인 예방 또는 치료에 이용될 수 있으며, 특히 원천적인 발병 요인을 제어함으로써 류마티스성 관절염과 그 병리학적인 병인이 확연히 구분되는 퇴행성 관절염의 치료에도 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
