An intermediate sheet (5) that comprises an air-through nonwoven fabric is interposed between a surface sheet (2) and the absorbent body (4). A recess (6) is formed on the skin-facing surface of the intermediate sheet (5) by embossing so that a recess is integrally formed in the intermediate sheet (5) and the absorbent body (4). The intermediate sheet (5) and the absorbent body (4) are either fused or bonded in the recess (6). A gap (7) is formed between the recess (6) and the surface sheet (2).
