PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking type working machine having an extensible steering wheel and a fixing mechanism of the steering wheel in which the exchange, etc. of a pipe member comprising the steering wheel is reduced.SOLUTION: The walking type working machine which contacts an outer surface of a second pipe member 9 over a predetermined length includes: a contact member 11 different from a first pipe member 8 a pressing member 21 which presses the contact member 11 to the outer surface of the second pipe member 9 by contacting the contact member 11 over a predetermined length and presses the outer surface at the opposite side of the second pipe member 9 to the inner surface of the first pipe member 8 and an operating member 20 operable to a pressing position where the pressing member 21 presses the contact member 11 to the outer surface of the second pipe member 9 and a release position where the pressing member 21 releases the pressing of the contact member 11.
