Die Erfindung betrifft ein System, ein Verfahren und ein Computerprogrammprodukt zur Kompression von medizinischen, vierdimensionalen Volumendatensätzen (V). Die Volumendatensätze (V) werden zwischen einem Encoder (E) und einem Decoder (D) übertragen. Zur Kompression werden die Zerlegungsvorschriften (ZV) richtungsabhängig und lokal an das zu codierende Volumen eines Macroblockes (M) angepasst. Desweiteren wird ein optimaler Prädiktions-Modus zur Prädiktion ausgewählt. Eine Auswerte-Einheit (A) dient zur Auswahl einer optimalen Kombination von volumen-angepasster Zerlegungsvorschrift (ZV) und Prädiktions-Modus zur Einstellung der Kompression des vierdimensionalen Volumendatensatzes (V).The method involves reading (1) a volume data set for the intermediate storage in a physical memory. A set of decomposition rules is provided for the decomposition of a read volume data set in a sequence of two-dimensional macro blocks. A set of prediction modes is provided for predicting a part of a volume signal to compress the respective macro block. An optimal combination of volume-adjusted decomposition rule and volume-adjusted prediction mode is selected (6) to configure the compression. A compressed data stream is generated (7) on the basis of the configured compression process. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for decompressing a volume data set (2) a system for configuring a compression system and (3) a computer program product with a computer program.
